چکیده
Enteric fever, though classically caused by Salmonella belonged to biotype II. enterica, Serotype typhi, isolation of Salmonella enterica Serotype paratyphi A has also been reported. Since 1996, an In the year 2002 and 2003, we isolated 3 and 4 strains of S. increasing trend in isolation of S. paratyphi A causing enteric paratyphi A respectively. A sudden and dramatic rise in the fever has been noticed in north India. Between 2001 to 2003, number of S. paratyphi A isolates was noted in 2004 over a an unusually high rate in isolation of S. paratyphi A was period of six months (March to August). In our study, reported from Nagpur (46.15%) and Sevagram (53.33%). In ampicillin sensitivity was 89.36%, whereas it was 57.1% in 2002 and 2003, we isolated few strains of S. paratyphi A Pune 1 and 66.67% in Nagpur. Sensitivity to chloramphenicol causing enteric fever. But in 2004, between March and was 72.22% in Nagpur study compared to our sensitivity August, a sudden and unusual rise in isolation of S. report of 91.48%. Hundred percent sensitivity shown to paratyphi A occurred among the patients suspected to have ciprofloxacin was similar to the reports from Nagpur and typhoid and treated in Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela. Blood Sevagram. 4,5 Cefotaxime sensitivity was 100% in our study as culture was carried out for 795 patients suspected to have also in Nagpur. Cetriaxone showed 100% sensitivity and both enteric fever during March to August, 2004. Phage typing and gentamicin and amikacin exhibited very high susceptibility biotyping was done at the National Salmonella Phage Typing against S. paratyphi A isolates. We observed that unlike other Centre, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. A total of places, majority of phage types of S. paratyphi A belonged 85 Salmonella isolates were obtained from 795 patients giving to type 6 and the rest were type 4. Till date, ciprofloxacin is 10.81% positivity of which 47 (55.29%) were S. paratyphi A the drug of choice for enteric fever in India. A recent study and 38 were S. typhi. All 47 isolates of S. paratyphi A were from New Delhi reported that 32% isolates of S. paratyphi A susceptible to ciprofloxacin, cephotaxime and ceftriaxone. showed decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin. As the Chloramphenicol sensitivity was 91.48% (Table). Only three emergence of resistance to ciprofloxacin is slowly increasing, isolates were found multi drug resistant. Phage typing was third generation cephalosporins like cephotaxime and done for 24 isolates of which 21 belonged to phage type 6 and rest were type 4. Of 21 strains of phage type 6, 14 strains

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Almost round-the-year occurrence of Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi A has been noticed in Rourkela since last 13 and five years respectively. The incidence of infection along with the antibiogram of these two serotypes in this area were carried out. متن کاملTyping and Growth Characteristics of Salmonella paratyphi A obtained from Blood sample of a Paratyphoid Case
Enteric fever, includes typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi and paratyphoid fever caused by S. enterica serovar Paratyphi A and is one of the most important febrile illnesses in tropical and subtropical countries, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. S. paratyphi A can be isolated from the blood and feces from paratyphoid fever patients (1, 2). In India, however Salmonella enterica ...
متن کاملTyphoidal Salmonella and Emerging Resistance in Outbreak Proportions
Introduction: Typhoidal Salmonella causes an invasive infection resulting in 200 000 deaths among 20 million patients annually. Typhoid remains a public health problem in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Africa, and South America. Traveler’s diarrhea caused by Salmonella is common in Asia. Outbreaks of typhoidal Salmonella resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and t...
متن کاملMolecular Typing of Salmonella paratyphi B and Salmonella paratyphi C Isolates from Clinical Samples in Iran
Background & Objective: Molecular typing is an important tool in surveillance and outbreak investigations of human Salmonella infections. In this study, Subtyping of Salmonella Paratyphi B and C isolates derived from Iranian patients was carried out by RAPD-PCR to assess the extent of genetic diversity of these isolates. Materials & Methods: Fourteen Salmonella isolates including 6 strains of S...
متن کاملGrowth of typhoid and paratyphoid bacilli in intravenously infected mice.
The in vivo growth of Salmonella paratyphi A, S. paratyphi B, S. paratyphi C, and S. typhi, as well as of an S. typhi-typhimurium hybrid, was studied in three different strains of mice. S. paratyphi A and B and S. typhi demonstrated very little growth potential in any of the intravenously infected mice, even after as many as 20 serial mouse passages. It was noted, however, that small numbers of...
